How to Download Respondus Lockdown Browser


NOTE: Respondus Lockdown Browser is incompatible with Chromebooks. You will need to make special arrangements with your professor. 

Additionally, if you are using Lockdown Browser for a take-home quiz/test, the library computers are available resources. 

To download Respondus Lockdown Browser:



The page will automatically detect what type of computer you are on to ensure that the correct version of the software is downloaded.  If you encounter any issues with the installation process or with the program itself, please contact LMS Support (lmssupport@masters.edu or 661.362.2341).


Downloading Respondus LockDown Browser on an iPad:


NOTE: Downloading LockDown Browser on an iPad means you will need to download the app version from the app store, which is not compatible with the Canvas Student app. You may need to uninstall the Canvas app before launching the LockDown Browser app.

To install the app:

Navigate to the app store on your iPad and search for "LockDown Browser". You should be seeing an app that looks like this:

After installing:

Open the app and begin signing in. It will ask you to select your institution:

You will then be prompted to sign in with your student account. Once you do, you should be able to find your Canvas course and launch the test. 

NOTE: You may encounter this error if you open the test from within lockdown browser:

If this is the case, open Safari and log into Canvas on the web via our website. When you access your test from the web you should see this:

Upon clicking this, you will be redirected back to the LockDown Browser App. You should be seeing this prompt before taking your test:

Once you enable App Self-Lock, you will be locked into LockDown Browser until you finish the test.
